The BSC (Baltimore Sailing Club) concluded the year 2017 in the same manner as it started – with a wave of activity, says Deirdre Horgan December 29 saw members fill Hotel of Casey for the Annual Dinner Dance. The Commodore Michael Walsh presented the overall 1720 trophy to Boomerang and Declan Tiernan was the overall winner. The award of the best Junior Sailor of the year 2017 went to Joseph Griffiths. The Commodores Award was given to Brian Leonard. Leonard was praised by Michael Walsh for his operation and planning of the Sailing Courses as the Senior Instructor over the past two summers. He also ensured the enjoyment and safety of all sailors on all taster courses and levels.

Commodore Michael Walsh on the occasion thanked all the members, instructors, volunteers, helpers and assistants for a wonderful year. The year started with the IODAI Spring Training Camp in the month of February and the sailing course Rath National School Taster (RNST) over Easter. The Summer Junior Sailing courses (SJSC) attracted record numbers again. The water activity remained continued all through the summer with the Catalogue and Lousy Cup Leagues, Rambler Trophy competitions and Marconi Cup. The adult “Try sailing” courses in the month of July and August respectively, were an excellent opportunity to get brush up on those skills under the supervision of expert eye of qualified instructions.

The season got close with the ITRA National Championships during late November. And the Commodore also wished and congratulated Fionn Lyden on his win of a bronze medal at the Finn U23 World Championships in Hungary. And this was followed by win of All Ireland Sailing Championship (AISC) with the crew mate Liam Manning.

The Mark Hassett continues to make an impression with his campaign in the 49er class and we all wish them success in the year 2018.
