Teen At Sailing Camp Now In Critical Condition

A boy aged 17-years who were sailing at a sailing camp organized at Lake Washington is in critical condition. He was found underwater.


The incident happened at the Sail Sand Point, which is a community boating facility present in the Magnuson Park.

The victim, along with seven other teens, whose age was between 14-18 years, paddled into the water just near a dock acting on the instruction of the instructors. The instructor asked them to go into the water so that he could observe their comfort level. In the next step the teens was suppose to wear the life vest for the safety, but by the time, the victim had disappeared already.

Four instructors present in the park looked for the boy. The boy was found underwater and he was found after about six minutes of being disappear. Keep reading

Team Aqua Grabs RC44 Victory

The final day of RC44 Sotogrande Cup competition was indeed quite an interesting race to watch as the coastline of Andalucía and Sotogrande were in perfect condition.


The team of Chris Bake had increased the lead to 5 points soon after the completion of the 1st race. Thereafter, during the 2nd race, the team was on track for consolidating their position. The team had set the spinnaker and things were going perfectly. The stern got pulled up on a wave which buried the bow, which was quite unexpected. Chris Bake got drenched and the bowsprit was broken.

Despite such a condition, the team succeeded in recovering the kite. Thereafter, they spent around half of the leg to unpick carbon pieces. However, it was unfortunate that they had no other option but to continue sailing the remainder of the leg. The A3 spinnaker was rigged to fly from the bow in the following run. Keep reading

Page Will Lead US Sailing

US Sailing has selected a new chief of Olympic Sailing for United States Sailing, the new name is 470 gold medalists for two times Malcolm Page.


Page will take over his responsibility from beginning of the New Year. So, for Page start of the New Year will be the start of new responsibilities. Appointment of Page has been done after Josh Adams.

United States Sailing President Bruce Burton said upon the selection of page as Chief of Olympic Sailing “Expertise and experience in sailing makes Malcolm the best selection to lead the team of US. We want to build same progress that we had in the 2016 Rio Olympic and we think Malcolm will help the team to achieve it. “Malcolm has tremendous ability to top level matches and he has been the part of winning system. With his great personality, he will efficiently bring coaches and athletes together and take out the best in them. The US team is already on its high performance and will become stronger in his leadership.” Keep reading

Lipton Cup Race Report

We have some news regarding the on-going Lipton Cup. Before the event started, the forecasts predicted rough weather. Luckily, that didn’t happen as we had a nice day willed with the breeze. This is the 102nd Challenge for Lipton Cup. There are 12 teams that completed 4 races in J/105s. The teams came from Massachusetts, New York and California.

However, there had a 20 minute delay in the race. When the race 1 & race 2 began, they had to face 8 knots of wind. California Coast was at the top. Newport, San Diego and St. Francis teams walked away with the first 3 positions. In the case of the 2nd race, 3 teams tied for the first place. The Newport club took the overall lead after races 3 & 4. The score was 1 – 3, with the Yacht Charter in Dubrovnik team riding on on the heels of the leaders.

When asked about this early lead, the team official said that staying in the pressure was the main strategy followed by them. And they tried to stay away from the bad air of other teams. They focused on having clean air and a clean start. According to the official who was ready to talk to, they will follow the same strategy for all the upcoming 11 races as well. Keep reading

Fin On Topper The World

After the selection in both Topper 4.2 squad and the south east zone squad, Fin Swanton has become the latest topic of discussion in the sailing club. The 14 year old has spent over 9 months traveling in and around UK for training sessions and several national sailing events.

Fin Swanton is the member of the Felpham Sailing Club and he was on the Topper World Championship recently in Ballyholme, in Northern Ireland. There were sailors from distinct countries in the event that included Australia, Japan, South Africa and China. With over 200 boats making an entry and 5 days of the race was indeed quite a competitive one. The decision had to be made to take a step ahead from 4.2 sail which is most commonly applied for lighter sailors to full 5.3. This was a larger fleet when compared to the others. The fact that there was a prize of a week’s Scotland Yacht Charter only added to the attractiveness of taking part.

It was an exciting week, although the wind conditions were a bit frustrating. But, it gave a great opportunity to Fin to practice extensively for a tough 6 day series in North Berwick. The shifty wind and strong fog made him lose the qualification in the gold fleet by 3 places. The races took place despite of being in water for over 6 hours at a stretch in water daily. 12 teams in the barn in the Clipper Race

After a grueling twenty-seventy day race of survival from Airlie Beach in Australia, in which the crew of Clipper Round the World Yacht Race confronted various range of weather conditions. Derry Londonderry Doire came as victorious to a huge crowd of awaiting watchers as well as media in Da Nang, Vietnam today, observing the finish of Race 7 – Da Nang New Discovery of Asia Race.
The victory marks Northern Irish entry’s highly awaited first win of the fourteen stage Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race, the one and only race of this type that stays for amateur sailors. Garmin hit the second position, also recording its top finish till now, and Great Britain came 3rd, with the rest of the twelve strong Clipper Race pack also coming into the Vietnam throughout the rest of the day.
Coming off the yacht at the Han River Port to a special arrival ceremony that included lines of drummers, special Vietnamese wreaths and flag bearers, all conducted in front of a grand scrum of national media. Daniel Smith, the captain, stated that this feels really great to finally be standing on the top of the podium, and this has been a great victory. It was a really demanding race, both physically and mentally.

Melges 20 Miami Winter Series

The first ever Melges 20 Miami Winter Series regatta is complete and after a really great days of racing with epic conditions, the speedsters are headed home for coming holidays with satisfactory smiles. All of them were happy after having an awesome sailing experience.

From the great hosts at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, to the almost perfect sailing conditions on the Biscayne Bay as well as camaraderie contained within this fleet, the regatta was very much over the top event with the fleet totally primed for greater racing to come in the coming year.

With just 1 point break between overnight leader Liam Kilroy on Wildman as well as veteran Jim Wilson’s yachtOleander, the stage was all fixed for a battle on Sunday in squally, big-breeze conditions. Just behind Jim was a strong line of experienced teams including World Championship runner up Cesar Gomes Neto on Portobello, Drew Freides’ Pacific Yankee, along with the always relentless, two-time World Champion John Kilroy Jr. on his yacht Samba Pa Ti.

Blake Middleton told Yacht Rental Croatia that the conditions were under class utmosts of sustained twenty-three knots along with gusts to twenty-five, the fleet went to south portion of Biscayne Bay for the final 2 races. Shedding a tough beginning near the pin, the elder Kilroy saw his mojo upwind, cutting his way up the 1st beat to hold the lead. He did not look back for a single time.

Covering with a tidy squall on the 2nd upwind beat which spun in some new pressure, the pack handled it in step by step. Charging very hard along the race was Paul Reilly, a longtime Melges sailor, and his Red Sky Team ending 2nd, the blazing Brazilian Gomes Neto took 3rd spot.

Lake Havasu Yacht Club Hits 45

Lake Havasu Yacht Club, as well as their members, has literally grown with Lake Havasu City since its early days. Well, now, the club is celebrating its forty-fifth year of boating and being a part of the community this month.

Peggy Lawler, the Lake Havasu Yacht Club Commodore, stated that the club has had good fortune for all these years, and it is still going quite strong with around two-hundred members. The club was chartered in 1969 and was incorporated in the year 1970, and it has a great historic value in Havasu. It arranged sailing races in their early stages and also drew in 408 boats to Lake Havasu for their 1975 sailing event. According to club members, it was the largest inland meet held in the world that time.

In the year 1986, the club saw their official home on London Bridge Road and that the building has worked as the clubhouse since that time. There were several ways that the club has given back to the community – starting from volunteerism at boating programs to handing scholarships to local students.

Peggy Lawler, who joined the club in the year 2006, said that they could continue to contribute to the community’s youth. He said that in addition to the club’s accomplishments, what makes it strong and special are the people. The club members are like an extended family. The times we do get together, it is just constant laughter. They really do enjoy themselves.
